The Botanist Gin
The Botanist is conceived, distilled and hand-crafted at Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay using 22 foraged island botanicals.
The Botanist’s professional forager, James Donaldson, hand-picks the botanicals for the gin one by one throughout spring, summer and autumn. The botanicals are then dried carefully before being distilled.
The 22 botanicals are slow simmer distilled with pure Islay spring water in a unique Lomond Still, affectionately nicknamed Ugly Betty, by Head Distiller Adam Hannett. The result is a gin that speaks of the locality and seasonality of Islay.
Signature Infusions
The Botanist gin is created through two methods of distillation. The original Lomond Still used for this distillation process, one of two still used till this day, has been customised by the addition of a vapor chamber. This vapor chamber holds the 22 hand-foraged botanicals which adds a unique complexity, that speaks of the locality and seasonality of Islay, to the gin.
For Summer on the Square, The Botanist is launching new cocktails created with an infusion table. This infuser is not only a nod to our methods but will also allow you to play with the intensity of the flavour of your cocktail and reveal the taste of the 22 botanicals.
